According to Christine, in her wildest imagination she could not
have imagined how THE APHRODITE PROJECT could launch her forward
in her life and help her heal from the cancer journey.. The writing
of poetry and her discovery of language and the written word, as
she put it, helped her "write through and past her cancer."
At the presentation which was held at the conclusion of the project,
Christine, with her very powerful words and presence, shared her
poetry with the audience. Here is one of her poems:
The Struggle
It is such a struggle
Such a struggle
Every breath I take is a struggle with my mortality
Reality at such a young age
Couldn't be real
No history
In a blink of an eye it can be over
When you least expect it
No time to breath,
Just take action
One of our greatest gifts to ourselves is our ignorance
To go through life not thinking it could happen to me
It is such a struggle
Such a struggle
Just keep going
Take risks
Have fun
Just don't think,
If you think to much
Then we worry of what's going to happen next
Breath
Breath
I know it's a struggle
But, don't forget to breath
What is wrong with this picture?
I struggle with my age
Everyone says I am too young
It couldn't, shouldn't happen to you
But it did
I don't feel young
Now an old women inside the shell of a 30 something
Body aches from the inside out
Why did this happen now?
Life was just getting interesting
Two kids, a house, great friends and wonderful husband
I did everything I was told
Exercise, healthy diet
Thank God I listened to the lady doc's growing up
I was aware of my body and its parts
When I felt something different
I had the smarts to save my own life
Thank you Girly docs
Listen, Listen, Listen
It may save your life
Thank God I had my age to guide me
Her artist and poet, Perie, writes: "Writing poetry with Christine
again proved to me the value of writing poetry for release of unspoken
thoughts and feelings. I learned how deeply life-changing cancer
can be for a young woman, and how the desire to heal is natural,
and that if intuition how to heal is allowed the person, they will
find a way to heal themselves. The whole experience was an act of
love and dedication on both our parts."
